Infused Carrot Oil
Botanical Name- Daucus Carota
Plant Part- Rhizomes
Extraction Method- Maceration
Infused Carrot Oil is obtained from the roots of carrots using the Maceration Extraction Method whereby the roots are soaked in a hot carrier oil to soften and separate the constituents.
Infused Carrot Oil is used in skin care mainly because of its beta carotene (Vitamin A) content which is an anti-oxidant used by the body to fight harmful free radicals. But it is also a rich source of Vitamins B, C, D and E.
It is invaluable for its rejuvenating and rehydrating properties and therefore used to aid in repair of aged, dry, blemished, damaged skin. It is also used to restore elasticity and tone, eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. A great aid for mature skin.
Because of the outstanding benefits of Infused Carrot Oil, it is an ingredient in several Rainbow Essence products.
These products include our Intense Facial Serum, all Rainbow Essence Hand Creams and our Nail & Cuticle Serum.
Winter Skin Care for your Baby

The care of baby's skin is entirely in the hands of the parents. Commercial products for babies are generally full of artificial fragrances and chemicals, which we know cause irritation.
Extremes in temperature just add to irritation and dryness of the skin. Once the skin becomes damaged, it is left open to harmful things such as exposure to sun, detergents and other chemicals found around the home.
To stop the skin becoming damaged in the first place, prevention is the key. You need to apply a moisturiser that not only repairs damaged skin, but also acts as a barrier to the elements, preventing further damage to take place.
Rainbow Essence has a Baby Barrier Cream which is unscented with natural ingredients. It contains Shea Butter to moisturise and protect the skin and Infused Calendula Oil which is great for any inflammation.
Tips for maintaining healthy skin for your baby-
*Remember to bath your baby in a Bubble Bath that contains no harsh detergents.
*Make the bath water warm but not hot.
*Apply Rainbow Essence Baby Barrier Cream all over your baby's body (avoiding the eyes)after bathing.
This cream can be applied several times a day, if required, to protect your baby from the elements.
Cradle Cap is a problem that many parents encounter with their little ones.
Cradle cap, known as Infantile Seborhoeic Dermatitis, can occur any time in the first 3 months of life. It is not due to dry skin but is a form of dermatitis, which causes inflammation of sebaceous glands in the skin.
Read our Natural Home Recipes to see how to treat this condition.
Hand Care

Ever heard the saying
"You can tell a person's age by looking at their hands"?
Well, this is only true for those of us who choose not to have a daily routine for our hands and who leave them neglected, looking unhealthy and aged.
Certain occupations, such as nursing, require extra care due to the frequent hand washing required during their shift.
Repeated hand washing causes damage to the outer layer of the skin, leaving no barrier to irritation, infection, eczema etc. The skin also loses it's ability to retain moisture and so you are left with dry, dehydrated, cracked, sore hands.
Rainbow Essence Hand Creams are formulated using a powerful combination of natural oils containing antioxidants and vitamins which work to restore the balance of your skin, soothing and moisturising your hands, leaving them feeling smooth, soft and looking radiant.
However, applying a good hand cream just once in a while is not enough. Hand cream should be applied at least twice a day and also after washing hands, gardening etc.
Another tip, next time you are giving yourself a face mask, don't forget to apply a layer of the face mask to the back of your hands. Once you rinse off the face mask, see the difference this makes to your hands.
Remember, if you want great looking hands then you need to pay attention to them everyday!

Epsom Salts

Epsom Salts, which are actually hydrated crystals of magnesium sulphate, provide a natural way to relax the nervous system, treat skin problems and draw toxins from the body.
Epsom Salts was named from the mineral waters in Epsom, England, where people travelled from miles around to take advantage of the healing benefits of these waters which were high in levels of magnesium sulphate.
Magnesium is required for the feeling of calm and relaxation but when we are stressed, our magnesium levels become depleted. Researchers tell us that raising our levels of magnesium increases energy and stamina and may improve heart, circulation and lower blood pressure.
Magnesium also relieves inflammation and pain. It acts as a muscle relaxant and by easing muscle pain, helps the body to relax and eliminate harmful toxins.
Epsom salts exfoliate, cleanse and soften the skin, aiding in healing dry skin and other skin problems.
Epsom Salts can be taken internally, but the best way to reap the benefits is simply to soak in a bath of Epsom Salts.
Bathing in Epsom salts on a regular basis will improve your skin, relieve stress, relax and detoxify.
Rainbow Essence Bath Salts contain Epsom Salts with all the benefits we have just described but also the extra benefits of Dead Sea salt, French clay and 100% essential oils for that beautiful aroma.

Winter Hair Care
In winter, we usually pay special attention to our skin which often becomes excessively dry due to cold weather, low humidity etc. But over winter, our hair needs special treatment too.
Low humidity equals less moisture. Add this to excessive hair washing and daily blow drying and we are left with dull, lifeless hair and often the winter frizzies!
You can provide nutrition to your hair in 2 ways-
1. what you eat
2. what you put on your hair
Of course a balanced diet is important for healthy, shiny hair. But we can add nutrition to the hair itself. First you need a good quality, natural shampoo and conditioner. Then you need to use a deep conditioning treatment weekly.
Do's and Don'ts of Winter Hair Care
DON'T use hot water on your hair
rub too briskly when towel drying your hair
wash your hair too often (every 2-3 days is enough)
overbrush
blow dry your hair every day
DO use a good quality, natural shampoo and conditioner
comb the conditioner through your hair
use a deep conditioning treatment weekly
Rainbow Essence' Aloe Vera & Grapefruit Shampoo and Conditioner beat the winter frizzies as the aloe vera will
-
add softness
-
and shine to your hair.
And, our Hair Tonic, if used weekly, will
-
strengthen
-
and nourish your hair.
Remember, if you care about how your hair looks, pamper it and feed it properly.
Dry Skin And How To Avoid It.
Dry skin is not necessarily due to lack of moisture. Whilst it is important to keep well hydrated, dry skin is usually due to damage caused by skin care products that cause drying and, of course, the environment such as cold weather, too much sun exposure or extremes of temperature, air conditioning, heaters etc
When the skin becomes damaged, it loses its ability to retain moisture, therefore the aim is to repair the damaged skin allowing moisturisers to do their job.
This is where natural skin care products come in. If you are using skin care products that contain harsh chemicals, synthetic preservatives or artificial fragrances then you are subjecting your skin to repeated damage. Add this to environmental factors and you have a recipe for dry, damaged skin
Tips for avoiding Dry Skin
-
Go through your bathroom cupboards and throw away all products containing harsh chemicals or irritants such as Ethanol (alcohol), mineral oil, petrolatum, polyacrylamide, salicylic acid or sodium lauryl sulphate, just to name a few. Use natural skin care products only.
Rose Essential Oil
Roses have a long and colourful history and conjure images of romance, love and beauty. And it’s no wonder, as the scent of the rose is exquisite!
The rose essential oil is very concentrated and may not smell quite the same as the actual flower.
Did you know it takes 3,000 to 5,000 kg of fresh flowers to produce just 1kg of essential oil? No wonder it is so expensive!!!
The essential oil is steam distilled from the flowers of rose bushes found in Bulgaria or Turkey.
Rose essential oil is a good general tonic for the skin as well as for the soul. It soothes the emotions and lifts the spirits. It is also great for all skin types but particularly good for mature/dry/sensitive skin.
There are no contraindications for using rose essential oil at normal doses. It is too expensive to overdose!!!!
At Rainbow Essence, we have a number of products containing Rose essential oil, so go ahead and treat yourself. You will feel a million dollars!!
Searching for Natural Skin Care Products?

Finding it difficult to find Natural Skin Care products on the commercial market?
This is mainly because commercial products contain synthetic preservatives which help maintain a long shelf life. However, these synthetic preservatives have the potential to cause allergic reactions, dermatitis and many are carcinogenic.
Skin Care products can be produced using Natural preservatives and may have a shelf life of up to 18 months depending on what other ingredients are used and also if stored correctly.
You can make your own skin products using many food items found in your kitchen, however, these will need to be stored in the fridge and will have a very short shelf life.
When looking for Natural Skin Care products read the ingredients label and AVOID products containing-
* synthetic preservatives
* synthetic fragrances and dyes
Whilst it is essential to have a daily skin care regime, it is equally important to be aware of external factors which may be causing damage, otherwise, despite all your efforts you will have minimal results.
UV rays from the sun contribute to wrinkles and skin aging as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.Harsh detergents used in shampoos, body washes and soaps, the most common being SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate) which may cause skin and eye irritation and dry skin.
Basic Skin Care routine.
Whilst it is recommended to have a daily skin care regime, it doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming. A typical skin care routine includes
1.cleansing
2.toning
3.moisturising
This should be performed morning and night. You should determine your skin type before you settle on a skin care routine, but keep in mind that this will change with weather, diet, and age.
For maximum benefits, you will also need to use an exfoliant/ face mask weekly or biweekly to aid in removing dead skin cells and smoothing the skin. Most people will also need to apply a serum nightly or from time to time to add extra nutrition and moisturisation to the skin.
At Rainbow Essence our products contain natural preservatives and we do not use harsh chemicals.
